Many years ago, I have my first encounter with one of the most beautiful Hindu goddesses.
One day, I was browsing in a shop with hundreds of statues and sculptures at Arab Street, Singapore. But only one of them called my attention. I must admit that by then, I did not know anything about this bronze statue that was somehow calling my name, but it struck me deeply and immediately.
I bought the statue and headed home without knowing the treasure that I had found. Later, after investigating about my new acquisition I found that it was Saraswati, a goddess worshiped throughout India and Nepal, that belongs to a trinity with Lakshmi and Parvati.
I learnt that Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music, art, wisdom and learning. I was totally amazed by the connection with this beautiful goddess that represents female energy related to subjects that are so important in my life. As unbelievable as it could sound, this statue chose me to live in my home and inspired me in my constant quest for learning, increasing wisdom, expressing art and of course enjoying music.
This is the story and inspiration behind my painting “Saraswati”, a large acrylic on canvas, painted only in yellow and black.
Some people find inspiration in their backyard, me…. most of the time I have to walk mysterious paths in very far and exotic places to find it (lucky me!!!).
